Roller blinds on plastic windows: interesting options

Roller blind - a fabric made of dense fabric, which is mounted on a metal base according to the type of the working roller, they are also called rolled curtains or Roman curtains. Due to the lifting mechanism, the shaft rotates, thereby winding the curtain around itself, folding it into a roll. This method allows you to instantly remove the drapery. Also, the advantage of these curtains is that they blend well with standard (banal) curtains.

Advantages of roller blinds

Roll-type curtains that are used for plastic windows are treated with special substances that have dust- and moisture-repellent properties, in addition, the curtains are protected from burnout.

Such paintings have several advantages:

  • Compactness. These curtains take up very little space, as they are easy to roll, so the window sill remains completely free, and the furniture can be installed as close to the window as possible.
  • A wide range of. In any hardware store you can find a wide range of roller blinds, as they can fit any interior and style, except for the classics. Such curtains can be made of cotton, polyester, silk or PVC, but the main option is linen curtains. The choice of the buyer offers plain curtains, with ornament, patterns or original patterns. You can also find roller blinds with photo prints or made under the tree.
  • Different density and permeability. Due to the fact that curtains of different materials are offered, you can select them depending on the need for natural light. They can also be used as a tulle, capable of holding only 15-20% of sunlight, or as blackout curtains that completely do not let in natural light.

Disadvantages of roller blinds

With the advantages it is clear, but what about the disadvantages? Among the main disadvantages, it is worth noting the fragility of the curtains, in particular the rotation mechanism. It has poor strength, which means it can quickly fail. For an affordable price, manufacturers use poor plastic, which quickly erases and breaks. These curtains are catastrophically not recommended for the kitchen, as they can absorb odors, which will negatively affect the atmosphere in the room.

If you install roller blinds on the window frame, then it cannot be opened if the curtains are down. There is only one way out of this situation - installing curtains directly on the sash profile.

Kinds

Among the types of roller blinds, the following should be highlighted:

  • Mini is the most economical option; they hang freely on the window. The advantage of this type of curtains is that they are very easy and simple to install on almost any window, no drilling is required for installation. The mechanism for movement is the shaft, and you can control the curtain with a chain. If they are installed on tilted windows, then you need to provide for the option that the curtains can sag and you need to come up with a system that fixes this.

  • Cassette blinds - the roll is hidden in a small aluminum box, the fabric moves along the guide, which means it will not sag and has high-quality protection. This type of curtains is used only for plastic windows and has two systems, one of which is cheaper and can be deformed, the second is mounted easily and is reliable in its work.

  • "lovolight" - are provided for large windows. Special decorative boxes are installed at the top, you can also install a small motor and a remote control system. It is best to use such curtains in offices, shops. These curtains are good in that they can easily close the window opening completely.

  • "day-night" - double cassette roller blinds with a spring control system. The design provides for the use of two different fabrics (it is best to select fabrics whose degree of light transmission is significantly different). In this case, one of them will be used in the daytime, the second only for night time. The window closes in two directions, depending on the direction, the type of fabric will also differ. Especially in demand are roller blinds on the ground floor, in the private sector or in the case when the neighboring house is located too close.

Installation

The main advantage of roller blinds, which was not mentioned earlier, is the ease of installation, which most of all affected the uniqueness of their use. Massive cornices are no longer needed, you do not need to buy and install them, because you can install roller blinds on your own in just a few minutes, the main thing is that you do not need special skills for this.

The easiest to install - mini roller blinds, there are three ways to install them:

  • Mounting on self-tapping screws - this option is the most reliable, but there is also a drawback. For example, if after some time a decision is made to remove and remove the curtains, the profile will remain damaged and holes from self-tapping screws will be visible on it, which is not quite aesthetically pleasing.
  • Using a spring bracket - in this case there will be no damage and everything will remain intact. The method is used only for the version with opening flaps. It is enough to hang the spring bracket on the open sash, pressing the seal with your hand. It is best to use an aluminum bracket; it is more reliable and durable. The advantage of the method is that it does not entail any damage, with the sash closed, nothing will stick out or break.
  • Adhesive tape is a universal method, it is enough to apply an adhesive layer, tightly attach to the surface and that's it. The disadvantage is that this is a temporary option, because after a certain period of time the fixation will weaken and you will have to repeat the fastening procedure.

It is important to remember that roller blinds have both left and right opening. If you install the curtain on the window, then you need to do this so that the chain for lifting is on the opposite side from the window handle. For blind windows there is no difference.

The easiest way to verify the installation is to observe the progress of the canvas. If the course is smooth and free, then everything is fine, if not, then you need to look for a problem, as this can lead to uneven wear of the material, which significantly reduces its service life.
