What narrow wardrobes exist, an overview of models

An excellent option for furniture for owners of small apartments will be a narrow sliding wardrobe, which will fit into almost any corner of the room, leaving room for the arrangement of other elements. To pick up a narrow wardrobe in the room, you need to familiarize yourself with its features, types, as well as dimensions.

Advantages and disadvantages

Often, narrow models of furniture for storing clothes are usually placed in the hallway. It is this room, according to the standard layout of the apartments, that cannot boast of large space. Therefore, apartment owners are puzzled by the question: how to furnish a room without losing square meters, but at the same time allocating enough space for clothes.

A feature of the manufacture of such models is that the dimensions of the product have small parameters. They are made both to order and for sale. A narrow, but roomy closet will help say goodbye to the unorganized storage of things and textiles. It is worth highlighting its main advantages:

  • Shallow depth - this indicator allows you to call this closet narrow. Due to its shallow depth, the product fits favorably into the empty corner of any room. The cabinet will not prevent light from entering the window, since the distance to the window opening is often at least 50 cm;
  • variety of models - products differ not only in the color of execution, but also in the variability of the internal space. The narrow type model is divided into a compartment for shoes, bedding, outerwear, a compartment with hooks and a mezzanine. All filling is preserved - only the depth of the product changes;
  • the possibility of decorating the facade - if desired, the client can order a special design of the shutters of their choice. Modern manufacturers offer mirrored surfaces, blank doors, as well as printing and drawings, as shown in the photo below;
  • reliability of furniture - the compartment mechanism is deprived of the opportunity to break. Timely adjustment of the doors will extend the service life, which can not be said about swing models. Cleaning the guides and regular maintenance of the product will help the design delight the eyes of the owners for many years;
  • universality - products can be placed in any room of the house: nursery, living room, hallway and even the kitchen. The latter option is convenient for storing blanks for the winter.

Like any furniture, a narrow cabinet is not without drawbacks. Among them, a small capacity is noted, because what can be expected if the closet has a depth of 40 cm. Therefore, this model will not suit a family with a large number of people. It is best to place such a closet in a small room where there is no space left for storing clothes. For spacious rooms, choose models deeper.

Kinds

Narrow furniture can vary in type of execution. It is divided into the following options:

  • narrow cabinet cases - the most common type of product, which is presented in the photo below. They are popular among consumers due to their stationarity. Structurally, the narrow hull-type coupe consists of 3 walls and internal support flanks. The facade of the models is framed by sashes on a roller mechanism;
  • built-in narrow compartments - if the room previously had a pantry, and after redevelopment a small niche remained, the best option is to purchase a narrow compartment wardrobe. The product fits favorably into a niche. It is better to purchase such models on order, so that the manufacturer can make a cabinet according to the dimensions of the niche. These models have only coupé doors, they do not have side and rear pillars - they are replaced by walls;
  • semi-recessed models - products of this type are also made to order. To do this, it is important to measure the dimensions of the niche, since only one of the side walls is present in the cabinet, the second is replaced by the natural wall of the room. The back panel is also missing.

A narrow cabinet is represented by such forms:

  • rectangular;
  • radial;
  • angular;
  • trapezoidal.

Standard rooms have a rectangular shape, so products of this type are the most common. They are conveniently placed in any area of the room. Radius cabinets have a rounded door and high cost. Despite this, such products look original.

There are 2 options for narrow type corner cabinets: in the form of the letter G and in the shape of a triangle. The latter type is considered too large and is hardly suitable for small rooms. A trapezoid cabinet can also have a shallow depth of 40 cm, however its design implies the presence of 5 walls.

Facade decoration

As a standard, a sliding wardrobe occupies a space from the ceiling to the floor, so its surface constantly attracts attention. Manufacturers today offer several design options for facades and doors of narrow models. It is worth highlighting the main types:

  • deaf facades from chipboard - the most common option for door design is to fill narrow cabinets with shields from chipboard. The thickness of the material is 16 mm, a variety of colors allows you to choose the product to match the surrounding interior. Manufacturers offer an extensive texture: glossy or matte finish. Particleboard models are resistant to temperature changes, so it is advantageous to install them in narrow hallways and corridors;
  • stained-glass window, mirror, glass - stained-glass windows look original and elegant. They are well suited for children's rooms and interior design in a modern style. Stained-glass windows are ordinary, multi-layered and embossed. Sandblasted glass today is considered one of the most popular ways of performing facades. A variety of ornaments and elaborate patterns are relevant for any interior. Mirrored surfaces on narrow cabinets are considered classics. They are performed in full growth or combined with other types of planes;
  • inserts from bamboo and rattan. These materials are valuable due to their naturalness and strength. They are suitable for natural interiors of a calm type. The rattan facades are equipped with small ventilation, which provides air circulation to the shelves. The environmentally friendly raw materials will refresh the atmosphere and add forest notes. Photos of such models can be seen in this material;
  • leather - narrow cabinets with such facades are relevant for rich interiors. They fit perfectly into the living room or luxurious hallway. The color of the material should be combined with the upholstery of upholstered furniture;
  • photo printing - such products emphasize the individuality of design. It is advantageous to install such models in children's rooms, and on the facades depict your favorite cartoon characters;
  • plastic - sashes made of this material look stylish and in a new way. They are light in weight and affordable. To create a checkerboard surface using such material is not difficult.

The wardrobe should be combined with other furniture in the room, especially pay attention to the surrounding environment.

Filling

Narrow sliding wardrobes are often used for hallways: a depth of 40 cm allows you to place a large number of clothes inside. Classic models are divided into 3 compartments:

  • upper - hats and accessories, as well as things of infrequent use, are stored here;
  • medium - shelves and clothes on the shoulders are located at this level, this compartment is considered the main one;
  • lower - designed for storing shoes and large items.

Often, a narrow cabinet does not allow to place a bar for hangers inside, since it will occupy the main space. Instead, use end rods in the amount of several pieces. According to the design of the product, the rods are fixed on special clamps or made retractable. There will be less clothes in such a closet than in the classic model 60 cm wide, however, the option is convenient for small families.

In order for the lower compartment to hold a lot of things, narrow closets are equipped with a large number of shelves. Alternatively, shoes are placed in boxes or stored on wire shelves. A small shelf surface can accommodate 3 pairs of shoes.

It will be nice if the narrow cabinet is equipped with drawers in the amount of at least 3 pcs. If the furniture is located in the hallway, in the drawers you can store items for the care of shoes and clothes: brushes, washcloths and shoe polish. Gloves and keys are conveniently located at the top. In the upper compartments on the mezzanine, underused seasonal items will find their place.

The cabinet can be additionally equipped with external shelves and hooks where outer clothing is hung. This model is optimal for a narrow hallway, where there is not enough space. By installing such a closet in the hallway, you can leave a small space for movement.

Dimensions

The classic depth of the wardrobe, where it is convenient to place a coat hanger with clothes, is considered to be 60 cm. Models are already represented by 40 cm. At the same time, the height and width of the product can vary, according to the preferences of the owners. It is worth highlighting the main dimensions of the popular narrow models:

  • the height of the models starts from 1600 mm and ends with 2600 mm. The most optimal choice is a product with a height of 2400 mm, since most apartments allow you to fit such products in full height. In addition, buying a cabinet to the ceiling, the owners limit the ingress of dust on the roof of the cabinet and additionally win useful space;
  • the width of the models starts from 900 mm to 2400 mm. The first option provides for the presence of two small leaves, the second option is made with 3 compartment doors. Photos of the model can be seen below. The step difference in width dimensions is determined at 200 mm.

Do not order too wide shelves in the closet - they can sag under load from things. The optimal shelf size is from 400 to 1000 mm, and the height between them is 300 mm.

It is worth noting that the usable space when you consider that the cabinet has a depth of 40 cm is 30-35 cm. The rest of the gap goes to the thickness of the compartment doors, the thickness of the chipboard 16 or 18 mm, and other indicators.

Boxes are made in height from 100 to 300 mm, their width is from 400 to 800 mm. If the box is too wide, give preference to chipboard for making the bottom: the hardboard will sink under things. To plan your sizes correctly, consider in advance where things will be located.

Selection and placement tips

The most suitable place to install a narrow cabinet, 40 cm deep is the entrance hall or corridor. It is in these rooms that there is usually not enough space to place furniture and other items. The product is installed in free space opposite the entrance. Embedded models are placed in a niche.

Pay attention to a number of criteria that must be observed in order to correctly choose a product for storing clothes:

  • if the room area allows, it is better to give preference to wide models: products with a width of 3 meters will help to fit a large number of things;
  • pay attention to the sliding details of the model: the bracket for placing the shoulders at a depth of 40 cm is very convenient for storing outer clothing;
  • make sure that the accessories for the handles on the drawers are absent or were recessed inland;
  • some owners note that shelves in a narrow product should occupy enough space, since it is on them that things can be placed as much as possible;
  • a shallow cabinet is convenient for storing tools or small household appliances, so before buying, consider all sizes for storage.

Photos of modern narrow sliding wardrobes can be seen below: they are bright, stylish and distinguished by their compactness. If the room does not have enough space for storing clothes - purchase a wardrobe 40 cm deep: it will be an excellent assistant for rational planning of the area.
