At what age is radish allowed to eat?

Radish does not cause delight from children: it is a bitter root vegetable with a specific taste. Despite its benefits, it is possible to start introducing vegetables into a children's diet only from a certain age. This is due to the fact that it can cause indigestion.

Pediatricians recommend giving radishes to babies from the age of three years. It should be finely chopped and in this form in small quantities added to salads. Parents need to monitor the condition of the child: if he begins to complain of abdominal pain, the ingredient from the diet should be removed immediately.

Radish is a root crop that has a large number of nutrients. Using this product, you need to listen to the body: if there is a disorder from the gastrointestinal tract, it is recommended to refuse it.

You can eat a vegetable in such cases:

  1. In acute vitamin deficiency. It contains vitamins of group B (B5, B6 and B9), as well as C and PP.
  2. With constipation.

The main function of radishes is to replenish nutrients: that is why it is recommended to use it for those who are diagnosed with their deficiency. It helps to fight high cholesterol and increase hemoglobin, and also relieves swelling by eliminating bile.

Important! Only fresh root vegetables are recommended. If it is stored for a long time, starch begins to form, which leads to an exacerbation of gastrointestinal problems.

Who is not allowed?

Doctors do not recommend using radishes on an empty stomach. As part of the vegetable, there are many essential oils that can lead to the development of ulcers and gastritis.

Who should use it with restrictions?

Doctors also provide a list of people who can eat a radish, but with restrictions. Among them:

  • children aged three to seven years;
  • undergoing surgery on the organs of the gastrointestinal tract;
  • people with acute gastrointestinal diseases, as well as liver and kidneys;
  • patients with cholecystitis;
  • suffering from allergic reactions that occur in the spring;
  • having suffered serious food poisoning.

In these cases, you need to eat root vegetables in food in limited quantities. It is recommended to monitor your well-being, and if necessary, exclude the product from the diet.

Do they eat at night?

Radish - a favorite vegetable of those who follow their figure and would like to lose a few extra pounds. Nutritionists advise eating this root crop in the spring evening: it saturates well, but at the same time its low calorie content does not allow you to recover.

Before going to bed, eating a root crop is not recommended: it can cause bloating, abdominal pain and other unpleasant manifestations from the gastrointestinal tract. Such symptoms will interfere with sleep and cause discomfort.

The best option for vegetable lovers is to add a small amount to a light salad for dinner. It is advisable to eat it at least 4 hours before bedtime so as not to cause irritation of the intestinal mucosa.

How does a vegetable affect the human body?

Radish is a spring vegetable, which due to its rich composition can manifest itself differently in the human body.

  1. During pregnancy. Women are advised to consume radishes in limited quantities while carrying the fetus. Despite the presence of vitamin C and folic acid, which is so important for expectant mothers, root crops can be added in small amounts to salads or cold dishes. An early radish contains ether that is harmful to the baby’s mucous membranes.

    It is strictly forbidden to use the product for women with gastrointestinal problems, renal failure, liver diseases and a tendency to allergic reactions.

  2. During lactation. During breastfeeding, a young mother is better off giving up radishes. This is due to the fact that the specific taste of the vegetable can negatively affect milk: it will become bitter, the baby will not want to drink it.

    It is recommended to introduce root crops into the diet after 3-4 months of feeding. You need to start eating it a bit: eat one thing, observe the baby's condition for 48 hours. With a positive outcome, you can use the product in small quantities.

  3. To the children. Radishes should be given to children with caution for a period of three to seven years. To accustom a baby to a healthy fruit is from minimal quantities: it is finely chopped and put in a salad. It was strongly discouraged to give it to a child before: a sensitive child's body can react poorly.

Is it allowed for gastritis, pancreatitis and other diseases or not?

Radish, due to its specific rich composition, can be harmful in some diseases, while in others it can improve the condition.

  • Gastritis. Doctors advise giving up radish to those who suffer from gastritis. This product causes bloating and irritation of the mucous membrane, which is strictly prohibited. Particularly bad abuse manifests itself during an exacerbation of the disease: there are colic and severe pain, nausea.
  • Pancreatitis You can use the spring root crop only during the period when the disease does not worsen (the norm is 50-100 g per day). During an exacerbation, the product must be discarded: it can increase the secretion of gastric juice and bile, thus worsening the condition of a person.
  • Gout. Eating radish with gout is recommended in small quantities and only once a day, but not in its pure form, but as an ingredient in vegetable salad.

    Fresh from carrots and radishes will be a good addition to the general drinking regimen that patients need to support.

  • Diabetes. With diabetes, there are radishes: it can lower cholesterol and blood sugar, and also helps to lose weight. You can use it both independently and as an ingredient in a vegetable salad. Fresh carrots and radishes are also useful.
  • With gastric ulcer. Due to the content in the composition of essential oils that irritate the mucous membrane, with a stomach ulcer, you should either completely abandon the product, or reduce its use to a minimum (less than 50 grams per day). This is due to the fact that an already irritated mucosa will take an even bigger blow.
  • With liver disease. For liver diseases, it is recommended to consume not the fetus itself, but its young tops. Cooked broth will allow you to clean it from harmful substances. To do this, take a handful of chopped leaves, pour them with two glasses of water and cook until the amount of liquid is halved. Very little sugar is added to the resulting mass, and then the cooled liquid is drunk.

    In this case, you can eat very little radish as an ingredient in vegetable salad. But this must be done very carefully.

Consequences of use despite prohibition

The use of radish, despite the contraindications indicated above, leads to a number of unpleasant consequences:

  1. Exacerbation of diseases associated with the functioning of the digestive tract. The most frequent manifestations are colic, pain, nausea.
  2. For people who have problems with the thyroid gland, abuse of such a product leads to the appearance of tumors, goiter and other complications.
  3. With great caution, pregnant and lactating mothers should treat radishes in their diet: a specific product can harm a baby.
  4. Children should not be given radishes for up to three years, in a minimum amount it can be consumed for up to seven years.

Despite all the benefits of radish, this vegetable has a fairly large list of contraindications. Including it in your diet, you should carefully monitor your condition: if you have problems with the gastrointestinal tract or you feel general discomfort in the body, it is undesirable to use the root crop.
