Treatment of orchids from parasites with Fitoverm KE: how to breed and use? Instructions for use
Tropical beauties orchids are becoming increasingly popular among gardeners. But it must be borne in mind that these plants are quite whimsical in terms of care.
If some conditions are violated, the flower may become sick or become the soil for the reproduction of various pests, the fight against which requires the use of specialized drugs, in particular, phytoerm. How to properly use this drug will be discussed in our article. Also watch a helpful video on the topic.
What is this drug?
Fitoverm is a fourth-generation biological product for combating ticks and other pests. Suitable for both indoor plants and garden crops.
Indications
This tool is intended to destroy parasites such as:
- Colorado beetle;
- butterflies white and cabbage;
- aphid;
- thrips;
- codling moth;
- spider mites;
- moths;
- leaflets;
- whiteflies;
- mealybug;
- scale shield.
Structure
The active substance of Fitoverm is aversectin. This is the vital product of the soil fungus Sterptomyces avermitilis, which contains immediately 2 types of poisons: contact and intestinal, that is, it acts both externally and through the stomach of the insect, causing paralysis and subsequent death.
Advantages and disadvantages
The positive qualities of the drug include the following:
- Fast decay rate - completely decomposes one day after application.
- Harmless to fruits - can be applied during their ripening and after two days to eat them.
- It is not addictive in pests, therefore it is very effective in controlling them.
Unfortunately, Fitoverm also has negative aspects.:
- When used on open ground, the effectiveness of the drug is significantly reduced under the influence of dew and rain.
- Repeated treatments are required for the final disposal of insects.
- Not valid for pest eggs.
- Fitoverm falls poorly on the surface of the leaves, because of which additional funds may be needed that will help to evenly distribute the product (for example, laundry soap).
- Incompatible with other poisons.
- High price.
Contraindications
Since phytoverm is a biological rather than a chemical drug, no contraindications have been identified for its use.
Safety precautions
- Since the drug is assigned a 3rd hazard class, during the treatment of plants with phytoerm solution, closed clothing, gloves, glasses and a mask should be used to protect the respiratory tract.
- Do not dilute the drug in the dishes that are used for cooking / storing food.
- When processing it is forbidden to eat, drink and smoke.
- After the procedures, you need to thoroughly wash your hands and face with soapy water, rinse your mouth.
- Fitoverm is dangerous for fish and aquatic microorganisms, so you can’t use it near water bodies and it is unacceptable that the packaging or drug residues get into running water.
- There is a danger to the bees, but only during spraying - a few hours after the drops have dried, the damage to the bees by the substance is already ruled out.
If the poisonous substance enters the eyes, nose, mouth, or open wounds, rinse them with plenty of water. If the drug enters the digestive tract, you should drink activated charcoal and try to induce vomiting, then consult a doctor.
Instructions for use
Preparing the plant and inventory
ATTENTION: To prepare the solution, you will need a special container, as well as a spray bottle, from which spraying will be carried out. As already mentioned, when working with a fitoverm, special clothing and personal protective equipment should be used.For indoor plants, a drug in ampoules is suitable. The treatment procedure in the room is recommended to be carried out at a temperature not lower than 20 degrees and preferably in the dark, as exposure to ultraviolet rays accelerates the decomposition of the active component. The flowers themselves do not require preparation.
The solution of the phytoerm CE should be prepared immediately before use, over time, it loses its effectiveness.
In what ratio to breed?
Depending on the type of parasites that appear on the flower, the dosage of Fitoverm may vary:
- When fighting against aphids, 2 ml of the drug is dissolved in 0.2 l of water.
- Against a spider mite, a concentration of 2 ml per 1 liter of water will help.
- To get rid of thrips, you need to take 4 ml of phytoerm in 0.5 liter of water.
To achieve the maximum effect, the water temperature should not be lower than 15 and above 30 degrees.
How to handle it?
Pests can be located on any part of the plant:
- flowers;
- leaves;
- stalk;
- in the roots.
A parasite control course usually consists of 4 procedures:
- First you need to carefully remove the orchid from the pot and disinfect it, but rather replace it.
- The roots of the plant must be washed in hot water and treated with a solution.
- Then the flower is placed in a wide bowl in the radius of sunlight and left without soil for 7-10 days, daily irrigating the roots with water.
- The first day after the procedure, the orchid is covered with a plastic bag. After the set period, the treatment with the solution is repeated and the plant is placed in the soil.
Two subsequent treatments are carried out by spraying the leaves and applying the drug to the soil.
Important points
One or two treatments are usually not enough to get rid of all the pests, as phytoverm does not affect eggs and larvae. Therefore, it is necessary to conduct a full course of procedures to restore the health of plants. You should also pay attention to all parts of orchids, including the roots, and if the insects hit the flowers, they need to be cut off and destroyed, since they can no longer be treated.
Storage conditions
The drug can be used within 2 years from the date of manufacture, subject to a temperature regime of -15 to +30 degrees. Fitoverm should be stored in a dry dark place separately from food, medicine and other means. It is necessary to exclude access of children and animals to the drug.
When to wait for the result?
The drug affects adult parasites, at first they cease their activity, and after some time they die. Gnawing insects continue to feed on the plant for 5-6 hours after treatment, and their complete death occurs after 2-3 days. For sucking pests, the terms of destruction are doubled, respectively, up to 12 hours and 5-6 days.
In the open air, the drug is able to stay on the leaves for up to 3 weeks in the absence of precipitation. Also, in open ground, the effect is noticeable faster (3-4 days) than on indoor flowers (5-7 days).
Analogs
Against spider mites, aphids and other pests, in addition to phytoerm, analogous preparations can be used:
- Actofit.
- Haupsin.
- "Ticks".

Conclusion
The health of indoor plants must be monitored. To get rid of pests, a large number of different drugs were invented, but most of them are chemical. Another thing is phytoverm and its analogues, which are biological substances. They comprehensively affect parasites and help to completely destroy them in a fairly short period.
